Amazing Wreck Diving!

Amazing Wreck Diving!

Usukan Wreck & Mayne Rock Dive Trip, Scuba Diving, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

We start out early on Friday for the start of our scuba diving trip to the Usukan Wrecks and Mayne Rock, near Kota Kinabalu.

The sea conditions were good and the sun was rising in the sky – making for a pleasant ride up along the North coast of Sabah, Borneo to our scuba diving destination. Some of our customers made the most of the sun deck on the front of our catamaran and topped up their tans whilst having a morning coffee and chat. A chilled out start to a day of scuba diving :-) .

Usukan WW2 Wrecks

We arrived at the Usukan WW2 wrecks at 9:30am and Captain Merali helped us expertly dropped the shot line in the middle of the Rice Bowl wreck. Billy, one of our PADI Instructors, went down the shot line to check the diving conditions and surfaced with a big smile on his face – only a slight current (North to South) and visibility on the wreck was around 20 – 25m. We were ready for our first dive of the day!

The wrecks lie in 25m – 40m so all the open circuit divers dived on Nitrox EANx30, provided FREE by Borneo Dream to all wreck diving customers. We enjoyed a dive of 35 – 40 minutes and were in awe of the fish life with large shoals of Fusiliers, Yellow Snappers, juvenile Mackeral and Antheas.

Stunning Soft Corals

The fish darted around the wreck as we dived through them. We also spotted portholes filled with Shrimps, Nudibranches and stunning coral gardens. Ed the 1.5m resident Grouper, also popped out to say hello to the boys diving on their rebreathers.

Diving at Mayne Rock

After a relaxing surface interval we moved over to Mayne Rock, just 1 – 2nm East of the Usukan Wrecks. Here we enjoyed good vis and a slightly stronger current (but still easy to dive with). We dived round the series of large white / grey boulders looking for marine treasures. We saw Blue Spotted Rays, Moray Eels, Anemone Fish, Porcelain  Crabs, Porcupine Fish and lots more. After a 50 – 55 minute dive we surfaced, another good dive.
