Scuba Diving Trip to Pulau Tiga, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

Borneo Dream ran a scuba diving trip to Pulau Tiga, Sabah over the weekend. We set out early from Kota Kinabalu on Borneo Dream 3 and started our 30nm journey to Pulau Tiga, the sea was calm, the wind was light and the sun was out. A beautiful start to a beautiful day of diving .

On board were Heidi, Rune, Paul, Lionel, Jamillie, Lynn, Leslie and the Borneo Dream team. Most of them enjoyed chilling out on the sun deck of Borneo Dream 3 on the relaxing ride down to Tiga, or Survivor Island.

Barrel Sponges

We arrived at Pulau Tiga around 9:30am and headed to our first dive site – the Pinnacle. The dive site is a raised area with depths from 7m – 18m. It is covered in large boulders which are overgrown with a range of hard corals, vibrant soft corals and huge Barrel Sponges.

The fish life was fantastic with large shoals of Fusiliers, Damsel Fish and schooling Barracuda. We also had some friendly Batfish following us and spotted Cuttle Fish, Nudibranches and a Blue Spotted Ray. A great first dive.

Mating Cuttle Fish

After our surface interval we headed over to Mid Reef, our second dive site at Pulau Tiga. We dived around the slop of this oval shaped reef which ran from 10m – 20m. We came across a lobster, an Octopus, an unusual type of Bat Fish, large Puffer Fish and lots of Cuttle Fish. We even saw Cuttle Fish mating!! What an experience.

After our second dive we started our lunch – specially made for us by Tracy – and started our journey back to Kota Kinabalu. Some of the Divers sunbathed on the sun deck of our catamaran whilst others enjoyed 40 winks.
