PADI Open Water Courses & Scuba Diving at Mantanani, Sabah, Borneo

The full Borneo Dream Team is now back in Kota Kinabalu after running PADI Open Water Courses at Camp Mantanani on Pulau Mantanani. Pulau Mantanani is a group of three isolated islands North West of Kota Belud, Sabah, Borneo (and 45nm north of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah).  The shallow coral reefs surrounding the islands have plenty to offer, for both novice and experienced scuba divers. The visibility can be as high as 30m.

Several British school groups stayed at Camp Mantanani between 18th July – 7th August. As well as getting involved in community activities and marine conservation efforts, the groups would also learn to dive via the PADI Open Water Diver course (run by Borneo Dream).

All in all a busy 15 days for the Dream Team at Camp Mantanani – 998,000 litres of air were used, 420 boat dives, 70 new PADI Open Water Divers, 4 new PADI Advanced Open Water Divers and 1 new Rescue Diver. Phew!

For the PADI Open Water Diver courses the confined water skill sessions were run in the shallow waters accessible from the beach in front of the Camp. The divers then went out on our 9m x 3m RIB for their open water dives. You can enjoy photos taken during the PADI OW courses at Borneo Dreams Picasa album.
