Bornean Orang-Utan – Sabah, Borneo’s Most Famous Resident

Perhaps more than any other animal, the Orang Utan is synonymous with Borneo. The Bornean Orang-utan is endemic to Borneo. Here it can be found in lowland and medium elevation rainforest.

The Orang Utans appeal is instant. Look into an infant orang-utans face and it is like looking in to a child’s eyes. We share over 96% of our DNA with orang-utans, so they may not be our closest relative but they are close enough.

The Orang Utan is primarily tree dwelling (it is the world’s largest tree dwelling animal). It’s forearms are 30% longer than its legs and both hands and feet are equally adept at gripping.

They can travel large areas in one day foraging for food – on average around 1,000m a day. They are solitary creatures and will travel alone, except when with offspring. Read the rest of this entry »

Scuba Diving Trips, Diving Holiday, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia – Customer Feedback

“I recently enjoyed my first holiday in Sabah, Borneo. I came for a three week holiday during July / August and arranged everything through Borneo Dream.  They pulled together a personalised itinerary for me and showed me some of the best diving and wildlife experiences in Sabah, Borneo. It was a outstanding holiday trip!

Diving Mayne Rock

Diving Mayne Rock

I enjoyed ten days diving with Borneo Dream and went on diving trips to all of their diving destinations – Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Pulau Tiga, Mayne Rock and the Usukan Wrecks. I saw so much marine life and was really impressed by the quality of the diving. The choice of diving trips was very good and my personal favourate was Mayne Rock – stunning diving.

Diving Pulau Tiga

They also arranged for me to dive at LayangLayang , go on a Kinabatangan River Safari, see Orang Utans at Sepilok and Proboscis Monkeys at Labuk Bay Sanctuary. I would rate all of these trips 10/10 for enjoyment, safety and what I did during each trip.

Kinabatangan River

I stayed at three different hotels during my stay – LangkahSyabas Beach Resort , the Jesselton Hotel and the Pacific Sutera Resort. All of them offered something slightly different. My personal favourate was Langkah Syabas. It is a great familiar hotel, quiet and clean, great bar and restaurant, nice park and beach to relax and to take a sun bathe. It also has fantastic home made cheese.

I would 100% use Borneo Dream again and plan to come back to Borneo again.

Many thanks for the very personnel and luxury treatment during my full stay. Great to know you! Thank you all!”

Snorkeling Trip

Wildlife Trips, Snorkeling, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia – Customer Feedback, July 2007

“I have no words to describe how amazing the Borneo trip was.  On arriving at the airport I had butterflies, but as it turned out, I had nothing to worry about as the whole experience left no time for anyone to get bored or think about home.

We arrived in Borneo on Thursday afternoon after two days of traveling and went to this interesting monkey restaurant where the food and service was fabulous.  This gave us all a chance to get to know the organizers of our trip a bit more; Billy, Jo and Ron from Borneo Dream.

Kinabatangan River Cruise

Kinabatangan River Cruise

We didn’t have a late night that night as we were all tired and the next day served as a chill out day as we went out on the boat for a snorkeling trip with Jo, Billy and Ron.  They took us snorkeling where we got to see a beautiful blue starfish, squid and even a sea snake!  They had also prepared us a tasty picnic of sandwiches and watermelon to satisfy us. A storm came in later in the afternoon – it was actually quite exciting and we knew we were in safe hands.

Saturday morning we had to get up early to catch a plane to Sandakan. Off to enjoy wildlife trips and explore the rainforest! We explored the Rainforest Discovery Centre, going into the jungle and spotting black squirrels roaming up and down the trees and beautiful butterflies fluttering about.  We then had a long drive to the Kinabatangan River lodge – which gave us time to catch up on lost sleep! Once we had settled in we went on a Kinabatangan River safari, this was extraordinary as we got to view Proboscis Monkeys up close in their natural habitat, unfortunately, we didn’t get to see any crocodiles. We then got to explore the jungle at night, this was quite scary and VERY muddy.  I got to see scorpions and leeches, luckily I didn’t get any on me.

Sepilok Orang Utan Sanctuary

Orang Utans

Sunday held the highlight of the trip for me as we went to Sepilok Sanctuary to see the Orang Utans while feeding.  This was spectacular from the way they swung, all the other monkeys are scared of them.

By Monday, I was wishing we could extend the trip.  We went white water rafting on Kiulu River which is a level 1 and 2; this was extremely fun.  The body rafting was an experience and certainly turned your bum a different colour!

Borneo Dream kept us entertained every moment of our Borneo adventure and left us with unforgettable memories.   The whole trip was a huge success and could not have been done without all the support we received and the careful organization – thank you Borneo Dream. I would definitely go to Borneo again!”
