Borneo Dream ran a scuba diving trip to the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck last week – the best wreck diving from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia!

Diving the Rice Bowl Wreck

Diving the Rice Bowl Wreck

We set off early from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia with a slight South Westerly wind. We made good progress and arrived at the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck, Usukan Bay, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia at 9:30am ready for some great wreck diving! Joanne, the Skipper, did a perfect drop of the shot line in the middle of the wreck.

By 10am all the scuba divers were going down the shot line starting there first wreck dive for the day. There was a strong surface current but once past 15m, and on the wreck, the current was minimal. Good wreck scuba diving conditions.

Well, we had great visibility on the wreck at 20m – 25m. We enjoyed some great wreck diving at the Rice Bowl Wreck, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia. The fish life was amazing – Barracuda, a 1.5m Grouper, darting Fusiliers, friendly Bat Fish, large schools of Yellow Snapper and more. A great wreck diving trip from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia! Read the rest of this entry »

Borneo Dream ran a range of scuba diving day trips last week from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia – diving Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TARP), Mayne Rock and the Usukan wrecks. We chose the best dive sites for the diving conditions for that day and, as a result, enjoyed some great diving trips.

Lion Fish

We saw Turtles, Cuttle Fish, large shoals of Yellow Snappers, Fusiliers, Bat Fish, Nudibranches and so much more. We also enjoyed a little bit of a work out on the Wrecks and Mayne Rock due to strong currents – with currents you get fantastic marine life so there’s always a bonus ;-)

We are the only Dive Operator in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah who goes to all three of these beautiful dive destinations, making us a good choice if you want some good quality diving during your holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia.

Enjoy some photos from these diving day trips – Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (PARK), Mayne Rock and the wrecks.

Scuba Diving, Diving Holiday, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia – Customer Feedback, August 2008

“I have just got back from a two week holiday in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. I booked my whole holiday with Borneo Dream – staying at the Pacific Sutera Resort and ten days diving with them. I had a fantastic time.

Blue Spotted Ray

Blue Spotted Ray

I went diving at all of the diving destinations they offer – TARP Marine Park, Pulau Tiga, Mayne Rock and the Usukan Bay Wrecks. They go to pristine dive sites, with often no other divers there.

Cuttle Fish

Cuttle Fish

You have an early start for the longer distance dive sites, which Lucy didn’t always like, but you can’t get to the further sites otherwise and they are definitely worth the journey for the wonderful diving once you get there.

Borneo Dream have GREAT People, great equipment, very professional. They also helped Lucy to become a confident diver.

There is also lots to do in Sabah if you don’t want to dive.

I will definitely use Borneo Dream again and will recommend that others use them too.”

Borneo Dream ran a wreck diving day trip to the Usukan Bay WWII wrecks last week.

The Usukan Bay wrecks are located 31nm NNE of Kota Kinabalu. We set off nice and early and 7:30am for our two hour boat transfer onboard Borneo Dream 3. The weather and sea conditions were good and we made good progress doing a steady 15nm per hour.

Friendly Bat Fish

Friendly Bat Fish

We arrived at the Rice Bowl Wreck for our first dive. The shot line was accurately dropped, with expert skippering by Joanne. The visibility and current were checked by Billy, the lead dive guide (who was diving using an APD Evolution Closed Circuit Rebreather). The six divers were then dropped upstream of the surface current and drifted on to the shot line ready for their first descent.

During their first dive the divers saw the largest Group we have seen along the West Coast of Sabah – it was around 1.2 metres long! As usual, there were large shoals of Yellow Snapper, friendly Bat Fish, Moray Eels, Lobster, Nudibranches, Shrimps, Moorish Idol and lots more. The resident Nurse Sharks were not around for this diving day trip. The second dive was just as enjoyable with the large Group still hovering around the bow of the wreck. So another great day diving the Usukan Bay wrecks, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo!

Thanks to Kelvin Roberts for sharing his photos from diving the wrecks with Borneo Dream.
