The sea conditions were good and the sun was rising in the sky – making for a pleasant ride up along the North coast of Sabah, Borneo to our scuba diving destination. Some of our customers made the most of the sun deck on the front of our catamaran and topped up their tans whilst having a morning coffee and chat. A chilled out start to a day of scuba diving .
Usukan WW2 Wrecks
We arrived at the Usukan WW2 wrecks at 9:30am and Captain Merali helped us expertly dropped the shot line in the middle of the Rice Bowl wreck. Billy, one of our PADI Instructors, went down the shot line to check the diving conditions and surfaced with a big smile on his face – only a slight current (North to South) and visibility on the wreck was around 20 – 25m. We were ready for our first dive of the day!
The wrecks lie in 25m – 40m so all the open circuit divers dived on Nitrox EANx30, provided FREE by Borneo Dream to all wreck diving customers. We enjoyed a dive of 35 – 40 minutes and were in awe of the fish life with large shoals of Fusiliers, Yellow Snappers, juvenile Mackeral and Antheas. Read the rest of this entry »

Borneo Dream ran it’s first wreck diving trip for this year at the weekend to the Usukan WW2 wrecks. We went scuba diving on the Rice Bowl wreck – a large Japanese tanker with a length of around 150m.
Rice Bowl Wreck
We set out early, at 7:30am, and enjoyed a leisurely cruise on Borneo Dream 3 North West from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The divers passed the time drinking coffee, eating muffins and chatting on the sun deck of our catamaran – a hard way to start the day . We cruised at around 17 knots and covered the 31 nm (nautical miles) to the Rice Bowl wreck in just under 2 hours.
Billy, our lead Dive Guide for this wreck diving trip, dropped the shot line with Captain Merali’s expert positioning (and the help of our GPS markers) in the centre of the Rice Bowl Wreck. After Billy checked the shot line was properly secured the divers started their first dive. Read the rest of this entry »
The wreck diving offered on these three, large wrecks is awesome. You can expect to find schooling Barracuda, large shoals of Yellow Snapper, Bat Fish, Ed the resident adult 1.5m Grouper and a good chance of finding sleeping Nurse Sharks.
Borneo Dream will be running their next ‘Get Wrecked’ Wreck Diving Weekend package on the 28th February – 1st March 2009. This will involve wreck diving trips to the Usukan wrecks on both day (total of 4 dives). We will also provide FREE Nitrox (EANx30) to divers on this trip too. Read the rest of this entry »
