Scuba Diving Destination Review – Pulau Tiga, Sabah
When Divers come to Kota Kinabalu they generally will only be aware of diving trips to the nearby Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. However, via a 60 minute fast boat transfer, you can be diving the beautiful coral reefs near Pulau Tiga. Read on to find out more about scuba diving at Pulau Tiga, Sabah.
Cascade of Barrel Sponges
Pulau Tiga is a group of small uninhabited Malaysian islands in Kimanis Bay off the western coast of Sabah. Pulau Tiga is located approx. 30nm southwest of Kota Kinabalu. The islands were formed in 1897 when an earthquake on Mindanao caused a volcanic eruption near Borneo. Pulau Tiga became well known through the Survivor television series. It was the setting of the first American season of the show.
Pulau Tiga is also located in a Marine Park – Pulau Tiga National Park. The Marine Park was established by Malaysia in 1985 to protect the island of Pulau Tiga and its adjacent coral reef-filled sea plus two adjacent islands (Pulau Kalampunian Besar and Pulau Kalampunian Damit – also known as Snakes’ Island). Our new RIB
Our new RIB has arrived – creating the Borneo Dream fleet!
Borneo Dream has just taken delivery of a custom built 8.75m x 2.9m RIB. Our RIB arrived last week in a 40ft container at Kota Kinabalu Port. It had been travelling for 25 days from the UK, with a short stopover at Singapore, to Sabah.
Our new RIB will truly transform scuba diving day trips from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It is the first RIB in Kota Kinabalu to be used for recreational diving. We’ve chosen a larger model with seating to create a fast AND comfortable boat transfer for our scuba diving day trips.
Here’s a little bit about the specification:
- It has a cruising speed, when planing, of 30 knots and a top speed of approx. 50 knots!!
- It will be fitted with the latest navigation equipment – GPS Plotter, Sounder and Sidescan Sonar.
- It will have twin 150hp Yamaha 4 stroke engines.

Barracuda
Scuba Diving Trip to Pulau Tiga, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia
Borneo Dream ran a scuba diving trip to Pulau Tiga, Sabah over the weekend. We set out early from Kota Kinabalu on Borneo Dream 3 and started our 30nm journey to Pulau Tiga, the sea was calm, the wind was light and the sun was out. A beautiful start to a beautiful day of diving 
.
On board were Heidi, Rune, Paul, Lionel, Jamillie, Lynn, Leslie and the Borneo Dream team. Most of them enjoyed chilling out on the sun deck of Borneo Dream 3 on the relaxing ride down to Tiga, or Survivor Island.
Barrel Sponges
We arrived at Pulau Tiga around 9:30am and headed to our first dive site – the Pinnacle. The dive site is a raised area with depths from 7m – 18m. It is covered in large boulders which are overgrown with a range of hard corals, vibrant soft corals and huge Barrel Sponges.
The fish life was fantastic with large shoals of Fusiliers, Damsel Fish and schooling Barracuda. We also had some friendly Batfish following us and spotted Cuttle Fish, Nudibranches and a Blue Spotted Ray. A great first dive. Read the rest of this entry »

Diving at Pulau Tiga
Pulau Tiga Dive Trip, Scuba Diving, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia
Borneo Dream ran a scuba diving trip to Pulau Tiga from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah this week. On board our spacious catamaran (Borneo Dream 3) were Bernard and his wife (in KK on their Honeymoon), Chris (diving on his rebreather), Christopher, John and Michael, as well as the Borneo Dream Crew. We were all ready for a day of great diving!
Barracuda
We arrived at our first dive site, the Pinnacle, at Pulau Tiga at 9:30am. Billy, one of our Dive Professionals, performed a environmental check and surfaced with a smile on his face to say that there was little current and nice visibility (at 15m). Great!
Diving at Tiga
We all kitted up and jumped in to start our first dive of the day. I buddied with Chris – I had a camera, Chris had his video camera – and we explored the many pinnacles and coral bombies to see what we could find. We saw Barracuda, several Cuttle Fish, thousands of Antheas and Damsel Fish, Fusiliers and stunning soft corals, enormous Barrel Sponges and Gorgonian Fans. Read the rest of this entry »

Diving at Pulau Tiga

Borneo Dream recently welcomed, and took diving, customers from Gill Divers and The Submersibles. Gill Divers and The Submersibles are Dive Operators in Singapore who use Borneo Dream as their chosen provider for Diving Packages and Dive Trips in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
Scuba Diving with Borneo Dream
Taketo, Ying Kai and Esther joined us for a scuba diving trip to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park. Taketo then also joined a diving trip to Pulau Tiga with Borneo Dream on the next day.
They enjoyed two good days of scuba diving and saw a really nice range of marine life. You can enjoy some photos taken during the diving trip to Pulau Tiga, Sabah.
