Project AWARE Reef Clean Up Event with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

Borneo Dream held their 6th Project AWARE Reef Clean Up Event on the 2nd October 2010. We had 5 boats taking with 50 divers joining the underwater clean up event from Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak, France, England, Germany, Belgium – our most popular reef clean up event to date!

We cleaned a range of sites in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park near Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. The sites included Sapi Jetty, Padang Point, Sapi House Reef, Coral Garden, Manukan house reef and Sulug east reef. We also conducted a surface clean up for bottles / plastics floating on the sea between Pulau Sapi and Pulau Gaya.

After two clean up dives we all met at Pulau Mamutik for lunch on the island – Chicken, Vegetables, Beef Redang, Rice mmmmm. Sabah Parks sorted the marine debris in to categories and weighed it. Overall we collected 129kg of marine debris of which 60kg was plastic bags. That’s a lot of plastic bags!

We involved other local business partners in the event – thanks to Sabah Parks, Marine Research Foundation, Diverse Borneo, Borneo Divers and Pacific Sutera Marine for your support.

Borneo Dream runs underwater clean up events twice a year. If you would like to join our next event in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah then please contact the Dream Team.

Our First Underwater Proposal with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

"Will you marry me?"

"Will you marry me?"

Our First Underwater Proposal with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

The booking all started out quite normal – two divers to join our scuba diving day trip to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, near Kota Kinabalu. When Jasper asked if Borneo Dream had ever had a diver propose on one of our diving trips before I knew this was going to be no ordinary scuba diving experience.

Jasper and the Borneo Dream team kept in touch in the weeks running up to the surprise underwater proposal making sure every last detail had been thought through. We had arranged a private dive guide for them (thanks to Gil), an underwater photographer (thanks to Adam from Scubazoo), a nice bottle of wine (for after diving) and had all staff sworn to secrecy ;) . The only thing we couldn’t prearrange was the weather!

She said "Yes!"

She said "Yes!"

On the 24th July Jasper and Chuan Tin turned up to join our scuba diving trip in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Jasper was bubbling with excitement and couldn’t wait to get to the third dive when he was going to propose to his girlfriend. Chuan Tin had no idea what was going to happen. The weather was unusually unsettled on the day but that did nothing to dampen Jaspers spirit.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

During the final dive of the day Jasper got down on one knee, took out a ring whilst our Dive Guide rolled out a large flag with the all important question on – “Chuan Tin, will you marry me?”. There was no hesitation in Chuan Tin signally ‘yes’ and the ring was placed on her finger. They both surfaced with Jasper shouting with delight as he broke the surface. Laughter, tears, hugs were in abundance.

Back on the boat the other leisure divers applauded them. What a fantastic surprise for everyone.

The Borneo Dream Team wish Jasper and Juan Tin many happy years together as husband and wife and many more happy dives together. Borneo Dream – making dreams come true in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo.
