PADI Open Water Courses & Scuba Diving at Mantanani, Sabah, Borneo

The full Borneo Dream Team is now back in Kota Kinabalu after running PADI Open Water Courses at Camp Mantanani on Pulau Mantanani. Pulau Mantanani is a group of three isolated islands North West of Kota Belud, Sabah, Borneo (and 45nm north of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah).  The shallow coral reefs surrounding the islands have plenty to offer, for both novice and experienced scuba divers. The visibility can be as high as 30m.

Our First Underwater Proposal with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

"Will you marry me?"

"Will you marry me?"

Our First Underwater Proposal with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah

The booking all started out quite normal – two divers to join our scuba diving day trip to Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, near Kota Kinabalu. When Jasper asked if Borneo Dream had ever had a diver propose on one of our diving trips before I knew this was going to be no ordinary scuba diving experience.

Jasper and the Borneo Dream team kept in touch in the weeks running up to the surprise underwater proposal making sure every last detail had been thought through. We had arranged a private dive guide for them (thanks to Gil), an underwater photographer (thanks to Adam from Scubazoo), a nice bottle of wine (for after diving) and had all staff sworn to secrecy ;) . The only thing we couldn’t prearrange was the weather!

She said "Yes!"

She said "Yes!"

On the 24th July Jasper and Chuan Tin turned up to join our scuba diving trip in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Jasper was bubbling with excitement and couldn’t wait to get to the third dive when he was going to propose to his girlfriend. Chuan Tin had no idea what was going to happen. The weather was unusually unsettled on the day but that did nothing to dampen Jaspers spirit.

Congratulations!

Congratulations!

During the final dive of the day Jasper got down on one knee, took out a ring whilst our Dive Guide rolled out a large flag with the all important question on – “Chuan Tin, will you marry me?”. There was no hesitation in Chuan Tin signally ‘yes’ and the ring was placed on her finger. They both surfaced with Jasper shouting with delight as he broke the surface. Laughter, tears, hugs were in abundance.

Back on the boat the other leisure divers applauded them. What a fantastic surprise for everyone.

The Borneo Dream Team wish Jasper and Juan Tin many happy years together as husband and wife and many more happy dives together. Borneo Dream – making dreams come true in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo.

Scuba Diving Trip to the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck with Borneo Dream – Video by Scubazoo

On the 8th July 2010 Borneo Dream ran a scuba diving trip from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah to the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck. We also had Roger Munns and Jason Isley join this diving trip to take some underwater video and photos of both the Rice Bowl Wreck and Mayne Rock – two of our long distance dive sites accessible from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Enjoy a video taken during their first leisure dive on the WW2 Rice Bowl Wreck. The video was taken by Roger Munns from Scubazoo who kindly shared it with Borneo Dream. It is awesome!!!

What did you like best?:The staff were absolutely great. Gon and James (and the rest of the staff) were excellent with our kids – providing thorough, friendly instruction while pervading a sense of calm that helped everyone stay relaxed. We had a great time and would recommend Borneo Dream to anyone considering a SCUBA class in Sabah. The boat(s) and equipment were also top notch. Also, Joanne was kind enough to take and send underwater pictures of us diving – which were a huge hit. Thanks!!”
