May is during the ‘Dry Season’ in Sabah and typically has great weather and sea state for diving. All in all, a good time to come diving with us in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Borneo Dream Reef Clean Up Event
Dive for Earth Reef Clean Up Event Organised by Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
Borneo Dream held their Dive for Earth Reef Clean Up Event yesterday (24th April 2010) in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.
We had four boats and forty participants all focused on cleaning four sites in our local Marine Park, TARP, near KK.The divers included tourists on holiday in KK and local Sabahan and Malaysian Divers.
Diver Collecting Marine Debris
We collected a total of 326kg of marine debris across four sites in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park – Sapi House Reef & Jetty, Mamutik Jetty, Manukan House Reef and Sulug East Reef. This included 133kg of plastic bottles and 22kg of fishing net.
Borneo Dream would also like to thank Sabah Parks, Marine Research Foundation, Borneo Divers and Sutera Marina whose support helped to make this underwater clean up event bigger and better.
Weighing the Debris
It was nice to enjoy scuba diving with ‘new’ and ‘old’ diving friends, help the marine environment and have some fun! Enjoy photos from the event.

Our new RIB
Our new RIB has arrived – creating the Borneo Dream fleet!
Borneo Dream has just taken delivery of a custom built 8.75m x 2.9m RIB. Our RIB arrived last week in a 40ft container at Kota Kinabalu Port. It had been travelling for 25 days from the UK, with a short stopover at Singapore, to Sabah.
Our new RIB will truly transform scuba diving day trips from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. It is the first RIB in Kota Kinabalu to be used for recreational diving. We’ve chosen a larger model with seating to create a fast AND comfortable boat transfer for our scuba diving day trips.
Here’s a little bit about the specification:
- It has a cruising speed, when planing, of 30 knots and a top speed of approx. 50 knots!!
- It will be fitted with the latest navigation equipment – GPS Plotter, Sounder and Sidescan Sonar.
- It will have twin 150hp Yamaha 4 stroke engines.

Perfecting Your Buoyancy – the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Course with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
There are numerous benefits from having great buoyancy when diving – improved air consumption (so longer dives), feeling more comfortable and in control during your dives, being able to confidently dive closer to coral reefs to look at marine life and taking better photos underwater.
Improving your Buoyancy
For a lot of scuba divers having perfect buoyancy can take many dives to master – luckily, the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Speciality course can help accelerate this process. The PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy Speciality course with Borneo Dream in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah will help divers in polishing their buoyancy control through knowledge development and skills practice. You’ll also have a lot of fun in the process

This is a great course for both new and experienced divers to take part in. Every Diver who completes the PADI Peak Performance Buoyancy (PPB) course notices a big improvement in their diving ability. Diving at Mayne Rock
Scuba Diving Destination Review – Mayne Rock north of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah
When most divers visit Kota Kinabalu, Sabah on holiday they will probably go scuba diving in the local Marine Park – Tunku Abdul Rahman (TARP). Whilst there are some very nice dive sites in TARP, there is some excellent diving to be found further along the west coast of Sabah and still accessible to divers staying in Kota Kinabalu.
Barracuda, Mayne Rock
One of our favourite scuba diving trips is to Mayne Rock. Our customers (and team) will regularly describe the diving at Mayne Rock as some of the best they have experienced. Stunning visibility, pristine coral reefs, no other divers in the water and a fascinating mix of marine life.
Mayne Rock is located approx. 30nm north (NNW) of Kota Kinabalu (below Pulau Mantanani) and is located on the Admiralty charts for this coast line (albeit not accurately as the charts were last produced in the early 20th century).
Mayne Rock Dive Site
We found the dive sites at Mayne Rock after performing an extensive search pattern of the area and using our GPS and fish finder to locate the coral reef and two series of large boulders. The effort was well worth it though and we have several GPS co-ordinates for Mayne Rock making it easy for us to locate the best sites to dive at this location.
As we’ve entered the Dry Season this month in Sabah we have started again our scuba diving trips to Mayne Rock from Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. With dives typically < 18m this diving trip is suitable for most certified divers – especially those interested in underwater photography. Borneo Dream is the only Dive Operator running diving trips to Mayne Rock.
