Jeanly, and her husband Lye, enjoyed a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience with Borneo Dream this week. This was the first time both of them had gone further than snorkeling in the sea.

We started their experience with a short skills session in the shallow bay at Pulau Sapi in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TARP), Kota Kinabalu. It had rained continually throughout the night so the sand was a bit kicked up in the shallow part of the bay. With gentle instruction by Joanne they soon became comfortable with the basic skills they needed to complete during the first part of their PADI Discover Scuba Divng Experience. Next, after a surface interval, was their first dive.

TARP Diving Day Trip & PADI Discover Scuba Diver Experience, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Borneo

We enjoyed another day of diving around Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TARP). The weather wasn’t as sunny as normal, with rain and wind from mid afternoon, but that didn’t deter from our diving and enjoyment for the day.

Lobsters

We started off our day with the leisure divers, Ada and Kenneth, diving near Pulau Sapi ably guided by one Ron. Richard also supported Ron as part of his Divemaster internship with Borneo Dream. Meantime, Jack completed his skills as part of his PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience in the shallow waters along Sapi bay with Billy, one of our PADI Instructors. Kenneth’s friend, Ben, had also come along to do some snorkeling and, with a bit of encouragement and a life jacket, went snorkeling in Sapi Bay over the shallow coral reef teeming with a multitude of fish life.

Nemo's!

During the surface interval after the first dive the wind had started to increase so we decided to adapt our diving itinerary and go and dive some pretty coral reefs in the sheltered bays around Pulau Gaya. Here Ada and Jack dived together for the first time ever. Jack also showed-off his natural diving ability – Billy reckons it was his expert tuition ;-) – and nicely managed his buoyancy during his PADI Discover Scuba Diving dives. The divers spotted Puffer Fish, lots of Anemone Fish, Trumpet Fish, Fusiliers, Nudibranches, some large Lobsters and lots more.

Whilst they were diving Ben chose to do a bit of sun bathing on the sun deck of Borneo Dream 3 and chilled out for the rest of the afternoon as well as enjoy some fun chats with Joanne, the skipper for the day.

Enjoy more photos from this diving day trip with Borneo Dream. Another relaxed, enjoyable day of diving and snorkeling with some great company!

Diving Sipadan, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

Most divers travel to Sabah, Borneo to dive at Sipadan. Long recognised as a world class dive destination and made famous by Jacques Cousteau, it is understandable why diving Sipadan is so popular.

Sipadan can be dived all year round, with the best time between April to December. It has stunning drop-offs which provides for some breathtaking diving experiences. Home to nesting turtles you will see numerous Green Turtles on every dive. You’ll also see a range of Shark species, the most popular being the White Tip Shark.

Sipadan has several dive sites so there is plenty of different diving opportunities to be had. The best length of stay is from 4 days up to a week. There are a range of diving centres and resorts who have diving trips to Sipadan. I’d recommend staying at one of the resorts near Mabul or at Kapalai. The boat journey to the dive sites are much shorter and they are in a much nicer location.

Diving Sipadan is an experience every diver must have! Enjoy some of our favorite photos from diving Sipadan, Sabah, Borneo.

Giant Frog Fish

You can also combine diving Sipadan with muck diving at Mabul where you’ll see some amazing macro life. Spot Mandarin Fish, Dragonets, Crocodile Fish, Giant Frig Fish, colourful Nudibranches, Pygmy Seahorses, Ghost Pipe Fish and more.

If you really fancy making the most of your Sabah diving holiday, then also add on the best wreck diving in Sabah – the Usukan Bay WW2 wrecks. The large wrecks are in the range of 25m – 40m, making them suitable for experienced divers. Teaming with fish life, beautiful coral gardens and lots of marine life. A perfect compliment to drop-offs and muck diving :-)

If you fancy a Sipadan, Mabul and wreck diving holiday, then contact the Borneo Dream team and enjoy a unique diving holiday.

Pulau Sapi & Pulau Gaya

TARP Scuba Diving Trip, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo, Malaysia

We had another great day of scuba diving in Tunku Abdul Rahman Marine Park (TARP) last week. The sun was out, the visibility was good and the marine life was out in force ;-)

Our First Turtle Of The Day

Our First Turtle Of The Day

For our first dive we dived near Pulau Sapi. We spotted a Hawksbill Turtle, a large Cuttle Fish, a Scorpian Fish, numerous Damsel Fish, Wrasse, Nemo’s . . . We dived nice and slowly and just watched as the Turtle came within 2 metres of our dive group and then crawled under a coral head to sleep. A good, enjoyable first dive for the day.

Beautiful Coral Gardens

Beautiful Coral Gardens

We then dived our newest dive site in TARP Marine Park – Soft Coral Garden off the West cost of Pulau Gaya. The volume and variety of soft corals is amazing and creates a beautiful landscape – one that impresses every diver we take there. The marine life changed slightly with shoals of darting Fusiliers, File Fish, large colourful Angel Fish and hunting Trumpet Fish.

On to our third, and last dive of the day. Another dive along a different reef at Pulau Gaya. Here we dived along a sloping reef wall that went down to > 20 metres at some points in the dive. We saw a Green Turtle resting on the reef, numerous species of Nudibranches, large Puffer Fish and plenty of shoals of fish.

Another great diving day out with Bornero Dream :-)
