TARP Scuba Diving Day Trip, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Borneo

Borneo Dream took several customers on a TARP diving day trip, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah this week. During our first dive on Clements Reef, Pulau Sapi we saw a beautiful large Green Turtle just resting for a snack right next to a Gorgonian fan. Stunning!

We slowly approached the Turtle and stayed a few metres away. As a result, she was quite happy to stay around for several minutes whilst the divers just watched on in awe. Alongside great visibility, beautiful coral gardens and a good mix of marine life, this sighting topped off a great dive.

Stephen Smith, one of our diving customers, took the photo with the Borneo Dream camera – good photo Stephen!

Diving the Rice Bowl Wreck

Diving the Rice Bowl Wreck

Wreck Diving Day Trip, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Malaysia, Borneo

Borneo Dream ran a wreck diving day trip to the Usukan Bay WWII wrecks last week.

The Usukan Bay wrecks are located 31nm NNE of Kota Kinabalu. We set off nice and early and 7:30am for our two hour boat transfer onboard Borneo Dream 3. The weather and sea conditions were good and we made good progress doing a steady 15nm per hour.

Friendly Bat Fish

Friendly Bat Fish

We arrived at the Rice Bowl Wreck for our first dive. The shot line was accurately dropped, with expert skippering by Joanne. The visibility and current were checked by Billy, the lead dive guide (who was diving using an APD Evolution Closed Circuit Rebreather). The six divers were then dropped upstream of the surface current and drifted on to the shot line ready for their first descent.

During their first dive the divers saw the largest Group we have seen along the West Coast of Sabah – it was around 1.2 metres long! As usual, there were large shoals of Yellow Snapper, friendly Bat Fish, Moray Eels, Lobster, Nudibranches, Shrimps, Moorish Idol and lots more. The resident Nurse Sharks were not around for this diving day trip. The second dive was just as enjoyable with the large Group still hovering around the bow of the wreck. So another great day diving the Usukan Bay wrecks, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, Borneo!

Thanks to Kelvin Roberts for sharing his photos from diving the wrecks with Borneo Dream.

It is over 700 square kilometres and Kinabalu Park Headquarters is located around 2.5km in altitude above sea level. Kinabalu Park, Sabah has a changing climate that supports rain forest plants in the lower regions then as you ascend you are able to experience different types of plants from coniferous forest to alpine type plants near the summit of Mount Kinabalu.

Follow One of the Trails

Kinabalu Park, Sabah, Borneo is a natural wonder that offers visitors, as they follow nature trails, a glimpse into the fascinating world of flora within the park. You can choose to follow the trails independently , wait for the guided tour at 11am each morning (you pay as small fee for this), or go as part of a day trip. The choice is yours.

Kinabalu Park is one of my favorite places to go for a day out in Sabah, Borneo (when I’m not underwater diving). I have been several times this year so far and enjoy trekking one, or more, of the many marked trails each time I go. I even went on my Birthday as it’s such a lovely place to chill out, enjoy yourself and go for a scenic, energetic walk.
