TARP Diving Day Trips, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah – Feedback from Bert Adams

Banded Sea Snake

Banded Sea Snake

I have dived with Borneo Dream last weekend (July-26 to July-28).

I would rate Borneo Dream 10/10 for safety and staff. I would rate them 8 – 9/10 for enjoyment, what I did, service and overall experience.

I liked the immediate and accurate response to my enquiry. They have a nice boat, small groups, relaxed atmosphere … with a touch of English wit. I enjoyed every bit of my trip. Overall good value for your money.

I enjoyed eating lunch on board the boat – it’s actually quite nice and part of the fun.

I would certainly use Borneo Dream again for diving in Sabah, Borneo.

Thanks,

Bert, Belgium

Discover Scuba Diving, TARP, Kota Kinabalu, Sabah with Borneo Dream

Yoke Lee, our good friend from the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), joined us for a diving day trip around TARP, Kota Kinabalu yesterday. She also brought her fiance, Cheng, along for a PADI Discover Scuba Diving Experience.

Despite strong winds across the South China Sea causing quite a swell in TARP Marine Park, Kota Kinabalu and reduced visibility underwater, they enjoyed diving near Sapi and Mamutik and saw a range of marine life – including an India Walkman. Cool!

Cheng was a natural diver – how many perfect their buoyancy in a PADI Discover Scuba Diving experience? Meaning Yoke Lee and Cheng can now share something new together in their life – diving!

The picnic style lunch went down well – even Cheng enjoyed the sandwiches after getting over a brief spell of sea sickness (something he unfortunately gets on every boat trip).

We finished off a good day of diving with pizza and wine in the evening. A perfect end to a perfect day with some diving friends.

Wreck Diving Package, Usukan Bay Wrecks, Gaya Wreck with Borneo DreamFeedback from Mark Tuttle, Panaga Divers, May 2008

Brigitte, Nigel, Tino, Rita and Mark enjoyed a trip to Kota Kinabalu in early May to experience the wreck diving opportunities and we were very impressed by the Borneo Dream team! Many thanks to Jo, Billy and Ron for making it happen with such a high degree of panache, these people have recently established themselves as a well-positioned and fully equipped dive centre in KK that cater to snorkelers, beginners and advanced divers alike with a taste for excellence.

Objective of day one was to explore the “Rice Bowl Wreck“, two dives on a Japanese freighter of name unknown, lying in 35m of clear water just 35nm north of KK. This is a superb dive, look at the photos of the shy juvenile nurse sharks!

We found the resident batfish to be particularly curious, ascending with us from the bottom to the surface. Our second day was an interesting challenge, objective was to dive a relatively unexplored wreck that is close to KK and to complete Nigel’s ERD3 assessment on a murky but very intriguing “Gaya Wreck” lying upright in 50m. This is not a wartime wreck as she is largely intact but wow, this is an excellent dive! Jo and Billy expertly set the shot line across the stern allowing 25 minutes to explore a site that is rarely dived.

Day three took us back to the Rice Bowl Wreck at Usukan to find more evidence of her identity. One teacup, a rice bowl and saucer were not enough. A perfectly timed departure left us with expectations of two dives however Mother Nature turned and as the wind picked up there were white horses smiling at us upon surfacing from our first dive. Billy and his team wisely decided to turn the dive and head for the lee side of TARP where we enjoyed a relaxing dive on a relatively unexplored reef on the lee side of Pulau Manukan, within sight of Sutera harbour and our Shangri-La terrace where the complimentary drinks beckoned!

BorneoDream 3 is a superb dive platform, with more than enough deck space to sort out our dive kit.

She is equipped with all the mod cons including a private head, twin bunk for those who desire a short kip between dives, all the safety gear one could dream of and a pair of quiet 140hp engines to propel us to our destination at a comfortable pace.

Billy and the Borneo Dream Team know what they are doing and do it extremely well. I certainly will return to KK for more and invite them to visit us in Brunei at the earliest opportunity.”

End of a great diving day out!

End of a great diving day out!

I booked a Pulau Tiga diving day trip with Borneo Dream for my family and friends. I would rate them 10/10 for service, enjoyment, safety, staff, value and on overall quality of experience.

What did I like the best about Borneo Dream? The safety, the company and the variety of dive sites.

I didn’t really enjoy being sea sick but it would be hard for you guys to improve on the day . . . . . it was a great day!

I will certainly dive with Borneo Dream again during my next holiday in Borneo.

Thanks,

Joanne

Enjoy some photos from their diving day trip.
